On May 2nd, 2024, Kabaka Foundation Ghana contributed 20 laptops and 20 solar power banks to the University of Ghana’s “One Student, One Laptop” initiative. This impactful donation was presented at a ceremony held on the university’s campus in Accra, marking another step towards bridging the digital divide and empowering students with the tools necessary for academic success.
Advancing Digital Inclusion in Education
The “One Student, One Laptop” initiative, spearheaded by the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, seeks to provide students with access to digital tools to facilitate learning and research. Kabaka Foundation’s donation of laptops and solar power banks directly supports this mission, ensuring that students, especially those from underserved communities, can pursue their studies without technological or energy constraints.
The inclusion of solar power banks reflects a thoughtful response to challenges faced by students in areas with limited or unreliable electricity, further enhancing the usability of these resources.
Remarks from Leaders
At the ceremony, the CEO of Kabaka Foundation underscored the importance of digital literacy and access to technology in today’s educational landscape.
“Education is a powerful tool for transformation, and access to technology is no longer a luxury—it’s a necessity. We are honored to support the University of Ghana in its efforts to empower students with the resources they need to excel,” he said.
The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana expressed deep appreciation for the foundation’s generosity, noting the immediate and long-term impact on students’ academic experiences.
“This contribution from Kabaka Foundation is a testament to the power of collaboration in addressing educational inequalities. These laptops and solar power banks will go a long way in supporting our students,” she remarked.
Student Beneficiaries
The donation is set to benefit 20 students who lack personal access to digital devices, enabling them to participate more actively in their courses, complete research projects, and enhance their overall learning experience.
One of the beneficiaries, a second-year science student, shared their excitement:
“This laptop will make a huge difference in my studies. I no longer have to rely on shared resources or travel far to access a computer. I’m deeply grateful to Kabaka Foundation for this life-changing gift.”
