On September 29, 2023, the Kabaka Foundation, led by Nana Owiredu Wadie I, commissioned and handed over a fully furnished multipurpose Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) complex to the Eastern Regional Hospital in Koforidua.
This state-of-the-art facility, named the Daasebre Kwaku Boateng Mother and Baby Unit, includes a mothers’ hostel and is dedicated to reducing neonatal and infant mortality in the region and beyond.
The NICU complex represents a beacon of hope for the region’s future, embodying the foundation’s commitment to Sustainable Development Goal 3, which strives for good health and well-being. The facility is designed to provide a safe, inclusive, and stimulating environment for newborns and their mothers, equipped with modern amenities to ensure the highest standard of neonatal care.
In addition to the construction of the NICU, the Kabaka Foundation has been actively involved in supporting the Eastern Regional Hospital through various initiatives.
Notably, the foundation has settled hospital bills for needy mothers, donated essential items to the NICU, and refurbished neo and pre-natal wards, significantly enhancing the hospital’s capacity to provide quality maternal and neonatal care.
As we mark the first anniversary of the Mother and Baby Care Unit, we reflect on the positive impact it has had on the community, providing critical care to countless newborns and support to their families. The Kabaka Foundation remains steadfast in its mission to support healthcare infrastructure and services, ensuring that every mother and child receives the care they deserve.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all partners, healthcare professionals, and supporters who have contributed to the success of this initiative.
Together, we continue to strive for a future where quality healthcare is accessible to all.
